Vidya Balan is undoubtedly one of the most highly critically acclaimed actresses in the Hindi film industry. She has some very intense and hard hitting performances under her belt. Right from her debut Hindi movie ‘Parineeta’ to her latest ‘Ishqiya’, Vidya has earned a lot of appreciation for her natural acting abilities. She is also one of the few Bollywood actresses who have managed to make a name without really taking help of glamour and skin show.
Recently, Vidya was approached by a very popular Tamil film maker. Incidentally, the film maker wanted Vidya to be a part of his next venture opposite none other than the Tamil film sensation Vikram. However, Vidya rejected the offer right at the outset. What was even more surprising was that she didn’t even bother to go through the script and simply turned down the offer stating that she is not interested in being a part of Tamil cinema.
This frank and direct approach of Vidya raises many questions. Sources say that Vidya’s rather ugly history with Tamil cinema is probably responsible for such a reaction. It is believed that Vidya was offered a role opposite Madhavan in the movie titled ‘Run’. Vidya had gratefully accepted the offer. However, she was dropped out of the movie and was replaced without any explanation. This trend repeated again when Vidya was again signed for another Tamil venture. This time too she was replaced by another actress.
Most of the experts believe that Vidya has committed a blunder by not accepting the role opposite Vikram at this stage of her career. Being a south Indian herself, Vidya could have used this opportunity to establish a career down south as well. Experts also believe that although she has had a good run in Bollywood so far, many film makers believe that she is more or less a stereotype actress who is a great choice for unconventional cinema but no so appealing in commercial cinema. This was evident when Vidya acted in films like ‘Kismat Konnection’ where she failed to create any kind of connection between her and the audience.
